Cientos de miles de colombianos marcharon este jueves en rechazo de las políticas de Iván Duque, en una de las movilizaciones más robustas de los últimos tiempos en contra del gobierno conservador que luce debilitado tras quince meses en el poder.

Con un diverso abanico de exigencias y reclamos, los promotores del llamado "paro nacional" dieron un parte de victoria en una jornada que se desarrolló mayoritariamente de forma pacífica pero culminó con enfrentamientos entre manifestantes y policías en varias ciudades.

En la noche se escucharon estruendosos 'cacerolazos', inusuales en Colombia, que se prolongaron por más de dos horas en amplios sectores de Bogotá, Cali y Medellín.

"Ganó Colombia en esta jornada histórica de movilización ciudadana", indicó en un comunicado el Comité Nacional del Paro, que reúne a centrales obreras, sindicatos, organizaciones campesinas, universitarios y partidos opositores.

Los organizadores solicitaron una reunión "inmediata" con Duque para debatir los lineamientos políticos, económicos, sociales y de seguridad que motivaron la protesta.

"Llamamos a toda la ciudadanía a estar prestos a desarrollar nuevas acciones en la calle si el gobierno nacional mantiene la desatención a los reclamos", agregaron.

Aunque divergieron en una cifra definitiva, cuatro voceros de organizaciones convocantes aseguraron a AFP que más de un millón de personas se manifestaron en todo el país. El balance oficial los estimó en cerca de 207.000 en el “pico más alto” de la jornada.

“Estamos escuchando”

Duque, que reconoce la legitimidad de algunos reclamos, siguió el desarrollo del paro en Bogotá con las altas jerarquías militares y policiales, y los ministros de Defensa e Interior.

En una alocución televisada al final de la noche, el mandatario destacó el "espíritu" de la "protesta pacífica" aunque cuestionó con dureza los actos de "vandalismo puro" ocurridos al término de la jornada en Bogotá, Manizales, Medellín y Cali.

"Hoy hablaron los colombianos, los estamos escuchando. El diálogo social ha sido la bandera principal de este gobierno, debemos profundizarlo con todos los sectores de nuestra sociedad y acelerar nuestra agenda social", dijo, sin responder directamente a la petición de reunirse con los promotores de la movilización.

Los choques dejaron al menos 42 civiles y 37 policías heridos, y 36 capturados en toda Colombia, así como daños materiales, según la policía.

En Cali, el principal foco de violencia, la alcaldía decretó toque de queda hasta las 06H00 locales del viernes.

En algunos barrios de la tercera ciudad del país, ciudadanos armados custodiaban edificios y residencias para evitar robos, constató un periodista de AFP.

En la capital, las refriegas entre manifestantes -algunos encapuchados- y antidisturbios se concentraron en la Plaza de Bolívar, a las afueras de una sede del sistema de transporte público y en la vía al aeropuerto internacional. Caída la noche surgieron nuevas marchas.

Abrir el gobierno

Sin mayorías en el Congreso y un rechazo del 69% según encuestas, Duque afrontó la mayor protesta de su mandato desde que asumió en agosto del 2018.

Con aire de triunfo, algunos manifestantes llamaron a mantenerse en las calles hasta que el gobierno escuche sus exigencias en un intento de emular las convulsiones sociales que han sacudido a Ecuador, Chile y Bolivia. Aunque no es claro que tengan la fuerza para ello.

"La idea de un paro es que continúe a través del tiempo", sostuvo la universitaria Johanna Suárez, quien caminaba hacia la Plaza de Bolívar, el corazón político de Colombia, una nación de 48 millones de habitantes con crecimiento económico por encima del promedio regional pero elevados índices de desigualdad y desempleo.

Duque "tiene un desafío de diálogo social" y "un mensaje de descontento muy grande", opinó Yann Basset, de la Universidad del Rosario de Bogotá.

El analista afirmó a AFP que el presidente tiene reducidos apoyos sociales y políticos. Tendrá que "abrir frentes de diálogos con las organizaciones sociales, por una parte, con los partidos políticos, por otra, para tratar de ampliar la base de su gobierno".

Antes de la protesta, Duque denunciaba una campaña de "mentiras" que buscaba desatar la violencia. El gobierno cerró las fronteras y desplegó militares en algunas ciudades.

Las centrales obreras convocaron la huelga el mes pasado en rechazo de supuestas reformas para flexibilizar el mercado laboral y el sistema pensional.

Todos cuestionaron la política de seguridad enfocada en el combate del narcotráfico, el asesinato de decenas de líderes sociales y el intento de modificar el pacto de paz de 2016 que desarmó a la exguerrilla FARC, que también participó en el paro.
